On October 3, 2008 Malone College became Malone University.

There were many reasons for the name change...
The Institution has followed a university structure (with separate schools, each with a separate dean) since 2001, and offered graduate programs since 1990. Throughout the transition from Malone College to Malone University, our mission to prepare Christian leaders for service to the church, community, and world, remains intact. Moreover, the word “university” means “one truth.” The word itself supports Malone’s motto of “Christ’s Kingdom First,” and informs our search for truth in recognizing the One who is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. In conjunction with the name change to Malone University, the institution opened a new boulevard, UNIVERSITY DRIVE, which connects the Johnson Center for Worship and the Fine Arts to the rest of the campus.
