Malone University Honor's Program

The Honors Program exists to:

  • Support intellectually gifted and highly motivated students.
  • Create a community of students and faculty engaged in serious, substantive, and sustained critical inquiry.
  • Equip students for outstanding leadership in service to God, their communities, and the world.
  • Underscore the University's commitment to academic excellence.

Students involved in the Honors Program are eligible to participate in both curricular and extracurricular activities. Sections of particular general education classes are open to honors students only. They are small in size and encourage critical thinking and active engagement in the learning process. Upper-level seminars are interdisciplinary in nature, small in size, and frequently co-taught by faculty in different disciplines. The senior-level thesis, developed over two semesters, is a project developed through independent study with a faculty member of the student's choice. Thesis projects can be traditional research or a creative project.

Extracurricular activities both on campus and off-campus foster the development of the honors community as well as provide enriching activities for honors students. Honors activities are free of charge to honors students--a bonus for being involved in the Program. The annual ice cream social the second week of fall semester will kick off honors activities for the year.
