Welcome to the Department of Health and Human Performance
In the HHP department at Malone University, we are committed to being excellent stewards of one of God's most precious resources - the human body. Throughout your education, you'll learn about making healthy choices in each area of your life - and discover how to best impact the choices of others as well.
1 Corinthians 3:16-17 declares that as a believer, you are a temple of God, and that His holy spirit dwells within your body, therefore we are called to excellence in this area. At Malone - there are many great men and women who live by example and will challenge you to commit to a lifestyle enriched by activity and physical fitness.

Pursue excellence with us in one of these fields:
Community Health Education
Exercise Science
Sport Management
Health Education
Physical Education

Sincerely,
Kathy Haas
Chair, HHP

The goal of health and human performance specialists is to assist others in learning about healthy life choices and integrating this knowledge into daily living in order to be good stewards in the care and use of the body. To that end, the department provides a variety of five degree programs and six minors.

Students pursuing majors in community health education , exercise science , and sport management  must maintain a 2.5 major gpa to be accepted into the major and to graduate.

Students pursuing majors in health education  or in physical education  must maintain a minimum 2.75 major and cumulative gpa to progress through the teacher licensure program and to register for  education courses at the 300 level or above. Praxis I basic skills tests should be taken during EDUC 112 with a minimum score of 175. See details of the assessment requirements and criteria for teacher licensure programs in the School of Education .

Wellness Center

The Malone University Wellness Center provides an opportunity for the development of the physical and social aspects of students. Having a place to perpetuate a lifelong love of activity and physical fitness is an asset to the Malone community in many ways.

In addition to having a beautiful facility that enhances campus life and improves the wellness of students, faculty, and staff, the Wellness Center provides academic opportunities. The cardio floor includes a high-tech, computerized program that assesses all the components of fitness. It includes blood pressure readings, body composition testing, a cardiovascular fitness assessment, and upper-body strength and flexibility tests. Many faculty and staff members have already taken advantage of this fitness assessment and have used it as a motivator to begin workout programs in the Wellness Center.

Along with the assessment, an orientation on how to use the cardio and weight equipment is included, as well as personal training  suggestions. Twenty-eight Life Fitness cardio machines are available including total body trainers, steppers, treadmills, upper-body ergometer, recumbent and upright bikes, and cable machines. In addition, dumbbells, fitness balls, and a stretch area are available for the workout enthusiasts.
