Athletics Department History

Malone Athletic Teams Win!  In fact, the Malone University men's and women's athletic programs finished second and fifth, respectively, in the 2008-2009 American Mideast Conference All-Sports Award standings, which take into account a school's overall performance in the seven AMC men's championship sports and the eight AMC women's championship sports.  In addition (again for the 2008-09 year), Malone finished 21st among roughly 300 NAIA schools in the Learfield Sports Directors' Cup, which marked the highest finish among AMC schools.

2008-09 marks just the second time in the 11-year history of the AMC All-Sports Competition that Malone has not finished first in at least one of the two divisions.  However, even without a title in 08-09, Malone still easily owns the most all-sports trophies for both men (seven titles) and women (five titles).  Malone’s outstanding programs have even finished as high as second nationally in the NAIA All Sports standings (men’s in 1989-90) and have been ranked in the top twenty-five nationally in nearly each of the last 20 years.  We also placed 5th in the NAIA Sears Directors' Cup standings (among over 300 schools) for the 2001-2002 year.

And we continue to win! That’s great for the school and for you. Yet you win at Malone in other, more important ways. Malone coaches know that quality athletic training brings you discipline, motivation, self-esteem - things you’ll use off the field in your future career. Winning and personal excellence go hand in hand at Malone, where you receive individual attention, national recognition and access to professionals.
