Two Malone University cross country runners recently received NCCAA (National Christian College Athletic Association) Student Athlete of the Week honors following their impressive performances this past Saturday (Oct. 17) at the Bowling Green State University Invitational. Aaron Melhorn, of the men’s team, and Sarah Hines, of the women’s squad each collected the national honor.
Melhorn, a junior from Navarre, Ohio (Fairless H.S.), led the Pioneers a second-place finish among a 19-team field at the event as Malone, ranked No. 1 in the most recent NAIA National Poll, finished runner-up to only Kent State University. Melhorn finished third overall in a time of 24:24.1.
Hines, a senior from Galion, Ohio (Northmor H.S.), paced the women to a third-place finish among a 19-team field as she placed fifth overall in a time of 22:28.5.
The Pioneer men’s and women’s cross country teams were ranked first and fifth, respectively, in the most recent NAIA National Polls. The squads will both return to action on Saturday as they compete at the Walsh University Invitational.
