Mike Skvor, of Long Beach, California (Long Beach Poly H.S.)
and a senior punter on the Malone University football team, was recently named
the Mid-States Football Association Mideast League Special Teams Player of the
Week after his strong performance in Saturday’s convincing 48-12 win at home
over Trinity International (IL) University.
Skvor punted the ball three times in the contest for a total of 142 yards (47.3 average), including a career-long boot of 63 yards. His other two kicks were downed inside the Trinity ten yard-line. In addition to his impressive punting stats, Skvor also averaged 55.1 yards on seven kickoffs.
On the season, Skvor has totaled 1716 yards on 41 punts and 15 of his kicks have been downed inside the 20 yard-line. Skvor’s average of 41.9 yards per punt currently ranks second overall in the NAIA.
This is the second MSFA Mideast Special Teams Player of the Week honor for Skvor this season as he also received the award for his efforts in the Pioneers’ narrow 23-17 loss to Taylor (IN) University on October 10th.
