Position: Director of Library Services, Cattell Library

Summary
Malone University invites applications and nominations for the position of Director of Library Services, Cattell Library, beginning July 1, 2010 or earlier. The director is responsible for annual and long-range planning within the strategic plan of the university, supervising and supporting the professional and paraprofessional librarians, budget planning and implementation, managing collection development, and supporting information literacy instruction across the university. The Director of Library Services reports directly to the university provost.
Primary Responsibilities
- Strategically re-imagine and retrofit the library into a 21st century learning resource center for teaching, scholarship, and learning
- Collection development based on the latest electronic and database developments
- Promote emerging information technologies into library services
- Supervise, evaluate, and support library staff
- Prepare the annual library budget
- Promote and support information literacy instruction across all university academic programs
- Commitment to archival development and supervision
- Active engagement with OhioLink and OPAL library and other consortiums
- Serve on Library Services Committee and other university committees as assigned
Qualifications
- MLS or MLIS from an ALA accredited program required; doctorate preferred
- Five years of administrative experience in a library, preferably academic, that includes progressive management responsibilities, and short and long-term innovative strategic planning
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal, written and oral communication skills
- Collegiality in working relationships with faculty, staff, students, and public
- Ability to work well in a complex, multi-tasking environment
- Experience in utilizing online resources, electronic management systems, and library automation practices and procedures
- Commitment to the Christian faith and the university’s mission, foundational principles, and educational goals.
Working Conditions, Physical Requirements, and Appointment
- Must be able to retrieve and re-shelve books from stacks that are up to 81” high, using a footstool if necessary
- The position is categorized as administrator, full-time, 12 month contract, and assigned faculty rank depending on experience and educational qualifications. If the candidate for appointment holds a doctorate, the position may become, “Dean of Library Services.” Salary is based on experience and educational attainment.
Malone University
Malone University is a Christian university for the arts, sciences and professions, in the liberal arts tradition. The University is affiliated with the Evangelical Friends Church " Eastern Region. The students, faculty and staff represent more than 35 denominations. Total enrollment is approximately 2,600 students with 1,575 full-time traditional undergraduates as well as two non-traditional degree-completion majors and five graduate programs.
